According to Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos, this securybank phishing trojan horse is “the next generation of phishing attacks". Security experts describes the spyware trojan horse model as cunning by the way the almightysearch trojan waits for users to visit their online banking Web sites, then captures passwords and takes screenshots of the session. The information is relayed to the hackers behind the plot, who use the data to steal money.
The securybanks phishing trojan is spammed by email to millions of potential victims characteristic of phish attacks. Phishing scammers typically set up bogus Web sites to capture victims' personal information. The phishers then send e-mails that appear to come from trusted companies to lure people to the fake sites, where victims are asked to enter information such as credit card data. Phish attacks frequently target bank customers, but eBay and Amazon.com have also been recent targets by trojans.
Barclays Bank said it had seen the technique of securybanks phishing trojan using legitimate sites before. A representative for the company said, "This type of Trojans is something (we) have been aware of for some time. We are working with (the) industry to identify the next steps to help combat fraud and are interested in educating customers."
A similar securybank phishing Trojan, Tofger, was encountered earlier in Brazil. This model of trojan horse determines which web site you are visiting and acts as a keystroke logger spyware once it decides you are on a targeted bank portal. The brazilian securybanks phishing trojans initiated keylogger when the word “Bank” was on the internet page. The new trojan spyware recently found, The Banker-AJ, has specifically targeted many well-known U.K. banks, and that makes it notable.
